Try making a color wheel using found objects. Look for small objects around your house that have solid colors. You'll need the primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) and the secondary colors (orange, green, and violet). Arrange your objects in the order of the color wheel. Make sure you take a picture before you put your objects back.

You can make your own air dry clay using this recipe. This is also called salt dough. Make sure you get your parent's permission before you use these ingredients.
Mix 2 cups of flour and 1/2 cup of salt. Add 3/4 cup of water and kneed (mix with your hands). This will be a little messy at first but will start to feel like dough or clay when it is mixed completely. Make your sculpture and let it dry completely. You can put it in front of a fan to help it dry faster. You can paint your sculpture when it's completely dry. You don't need special materials to make a sculpture. You can use lots of things including aluminum foil. Follow the instructions below to cut your foil so you can make a head, arms, and legs for your figure. Then press it into the desired shape and pose. What else can you make? Try making animals. They can be real or imaginary.
Drawing from observation just means looking at something and drawing it. You can use things from your kitchen like cups, bowls, and fruit. You can find other things around your house like books, toys and other interesting objects. You can also go outside and find plants, flowers, and leaves. Look carefully at the lines and shapes of the object. sketch it lightly first. Then you can choose to color it, add shading, or just create a line drawing. You could set up a still life. A still life is a group of objects. Look to see what objects are in the front and use overlapping to make them look near.
Found object art is made from discarded or unwanted objects that are not normally considered to be art materials. See if you can find things to use around your house but make sure you ask your parents first. Look for things like plastic lids, small boxes, paper clips, yarn, buttons, old toys, old brushes, dried up markers and pens... See if you can put them together to make something new. You might try making a robot, an animal, or just an interesting design.
Environmental art is art created with things from nature like sticks, leaves, and rocks. The photos below are of James Brunt's environmental art. He's an artist from the United Kingdom. His art is temporary but he takes photos so he has a permanent version to display.
What can you find in your backyard to make environmental art? Try arranging these things to create a picture or interesting design. Take a photo and send it to me if you can. I'd love to see what you create! |
